Meetings of Young European Cinema is the biggest international film festival for children and youth in Bulgaria, based in Sofia. For over 11 years, the festival has been dedicated to developing young audiences through carefully curated European films, cine-concerts, workshops, and film education programmes.
Bringing together filmmakers, educators, and young viewers aged 5 to 19, the festival creates a vibrant space for dialogue, critical thinking, and artistic discovery. Through screenings, discussions, and hands-on activities, it empowers children and teenagers to find their own place in cinema — not only as spectators, but as future creators and engaged cultural participants.
The festival is an active partner in several European initiatives, including CinEd, Film Corner, Cinema, Cent Ans de Jeunesse, Cinemini Europe, and NextUs Global, strengthening international collaboration and contributing to the development of innovative film education practices across Europe and beyond.
Beyond its annual edition, the festival runs a year-long Film in School programme, bringing quality cinema directly into classrooms.
